Where to farm
Fuling camps and Fuling enemies in the Plains.
Fuling camps offer a combat route to black metal scrap. Scout before engaging, collect after the fight, and decide how the raw material will leave the Plains. Under normal settings, standard wooden portals block both black metal scrap and smelted bars, so local processing does not enable standard portal travel. For early progression without Portal – Stone or permissive world settings, haul scrap and bars physically by foot, cart, or ship. Plan a safe extraction route and use the Blast Furnace to process the scrap when you reach one.
A Blast Furnace and coal for processing; build or reach one when progression allows.
A safe physical return route and inventory capacity, unless an applicable portal exception is available.
Scout a Fuling camp from outside its immediate danger and note an escape route.
Choose an approach that lets you manage a smaller part of the camp at a time.
Defeat Fulings and collect black metal scrap from enemies and camp loot.
Search the cleared area for remaining threats and containers before moving on.
Carry scrap back by a physical route in early progression; standard wooden portals block raw scrap under normal settings.
Feed scrap and coal to a Blast Furnace to produce black metal bars. Smelting does not let bars pass through standard wooden portals.
Use the bars for the weapons and equipment on your progression plan; haul them physically unless Portal – Stone or world settings permit passage and the departure portal supports the items.
Farming tips
Avoid unfamiliar night excursions; multiple Plains threats can make a camp fight harder to control.
Mark cleared camps so later trips can focus on other locations when more scrap is needed.
Plan for both scrap and bars: standard wooden portals block both under normal settings.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat across Plains camps as needed. Individual camps are finite, but other Fulings and camps offer further opportunities.
Common mistakes
Charging into the village center; scout and draw manageable fights.
Using a regular Smelter; black metal requires a Blast Furnace.
Trying to portal scrap or bars through a standard wooden portal under normal settings; use a physical route in early progression unless an applicable exception is available.
When to stop or switch
Stop when bars cover your planned black metal recipes; return to the Plains when another specific need justifies the risk.
