A secured Lox pen or enclosure in the Plains.
Before you go
- A tamed Lox pair.
- A Plains enclosure with room and protection from nearby threats.
- Cloudberries, Barley, or Flax for feeding.
Farming steps
- Choose a Plains location with room to contain the herd and a clear route back to your base.
- Build an enclosure suited to keeping the Lox in the chosen area and inspect it for damage.
- Keep two tamed Lox together and feed them with Cloudberries, Barley, or Flax.
- Leave space for breeding and allow calves time to mature.
- Check and maintain the enclosure before harvesting, keeping food available for breeders.
- Move selected mature Lox away from the breeding group and defeat them for meat.
- Collect the meat and use it in Plains cooking, including Lox Meat Pie, while preserving the breeding pair.
- Store suitable feed near the pen so you can maintain the herd without repeated supply trips.
- Protect the breeding animals from accidental harvest so the herd can continue.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat while breeders, space, and feed remain available. Each meat harvest consumes an animal, so let the herd replenish before taking another batch.
Common mistakes
- Building an exposed enclosure: check and maintain it against nearby threats.
- Harvesting the breeders: keep a protected pair for continued breeding.
- Expecting immediate meat output: allow calves to mature before planning a harvest.
When to stop or switch
Stop culling when stored meat meets your cooking plan, then let the herd replenish before harvesting again.
