A targeted Skellige route for repeated chances at red mutagens, with an essential camp-clear prerequisite.
PC / Global, Complete Edition with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine
WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Whale Graveyard on the east coast of Ard Skellig, then the beach just beyond Redgill.
Drowned Dead on Ard Skellig can drop mutagens, including red ones, but neither a mutagen nor its color is guaranteed. Whale Graveyard is one stop in a useful east-coast circuit, and its enemies only appear after the associated bandit camp is cleared. The route pairs that shore with the beach beyond Redgill, where another Drowned Dead group may be found. Collect every mutagen you receive, preserve lesser reds for their other uses, and spend only the grades needed for your mutation plan.
Reach Ard Skellig and unlock travel to the east-coast area.
Clear the bandit camp associated with “The Family Blade” so Drowned Dead can spawn at Whale Graveyard.
Be prepared to ride past the level 30 Cyclops and harpy groups on the way toward Redgill.
Have inventory space for mutagens and a specific mutation or alchemy use in mind.
Complete the bandit encounter at Whale Graveyard if it is still active; do not expect Drowned Dead before this prerequisite is done.
Fast travel to Whale Graveyard and search the nearby area for its Drowned Dead group.
Defeat the Drowned Dead and loot each body, checking for mutagens rather than assuming a drop.
Mount Roach and ride east toward Redgill, passing the Cyclops and harpies instead of engaging them.
Go over the hill beyond Redgill to the beach and clear the Drowned Dead on the shoreline.
Collect the drops, then review which red grades you have before converting any of them.
Fast travel away and return later to check whether the two groups have respawned.
Farming tips
Red is a chance, not a guaranteed result; keep the route useful by collecting other colors too.
Keep some lesser red mutagens intact because they have separate uses; convert only what your current recipe or mutation requires.
Repeat, collect and use
After the Family Blade camp is cleared, revisit the Whale Graveyard and Redgill groups after leaving the area. Their mutagens and colors vary, so this is a chance-based farm.
Common mistakes
Do not skip the bandit prerequisite at Whale Graveyard; clear it before expecting the Drowned Dead there.
Do not fight the level 30 Cyclops or harpies just to reach Redgill; ride past them if your goal is the beach group.
Do not turn every lesser red into a higher grade; retain some for other uses.
When to stop or switch
Stop when you have enough of the red mutagen grades for your planned use, or switch to Endrega encounters if you want a different chance-based source.
