Complete a Prey event and inspect its completion cache. Petrified Root is not guaranteed, so treat each run as another chance rather than a fixed-yield farm. Higher difficulty may improve the chance, but choose a setting you can complete consistently.
Before you go Access to Midnight Prey events. A character able to complete the selected Prey difficulty. Open the Prey activity and select an event available to you. Choose the highest difficulty you can reliably complete. Follow the in-game event objectives to pursue and defeat the selected prey. Complete the event and loot its completion cache. Check the cache contents for Petrified Root and collect any other useful rewards. Select another available Prey event if you still need the reagent. Farming tips A harder event is useful only if you can finish it reliably. Roots are a rare cache reward; combine the activity with other goals instead of assuming a drop each run. Repeat, collect and use Prey events can be repeated, but Petrified Root is a chance reward from the cache and each completion is not guaranteed to provide it.
Common mistakes Leaving before completing the event can forfeit its cache; finish the objectives and claim the reward. Assuming the highest difficulty always yields a root is incorrect; the drop remains uncertain. Ignoring cache contents can leave the reagent uncollected; inspect the reward after every completion. When to stop or switch Stop when you have enough roots for your recipes or when the event’s difficulty no longer suits your gear; return to another root source if needed.
