WHERE & HOW TO FARM Where to farm Nearby asteroid sectors listed on the galaxy map with the desired material and a threat level your ship can manage.
An asteroid field run is the direct, hands-on option for collecting ship-building resources. Choose a reachable sector showing the ore you need, mine its asteroids with a suitable turret, then unload raw ore at a Resource Depot. The galaxy is procedurally generated, so treat each sector’s displayed materials and threat as the route facts to verify.
Before you go Piloted ship equipped with a mining turret appropriate to the run. Cargo room for raw ore if using R-mining. A mapped Resource Depot to refine the haul. Weapons or an escort when the chosen sector has meaningful hostile risk. Open the galaxy map and identify a reachable asteroid sector showing the ore you want. Review the local faction and threat context; choose a safer alternative if your ship is not equipped for trouble. Check cargo capacity and make sure the ship has a mining turret before entering the sector. Fly through the asteroid field and use the turret to mine suitable asteroids. Watch the cargo hold and avoid extending the run once it is too full for a useful return. Travel back to a Resource Depot and unload the raw ore for refining or sale. Record the sector as a candidate only if its material, travel, and safety remain useful for your next trip. Repeat the run or switch to another mapped field after checking your remaining material need. Farming tips Mining asteroids and looting wrecks are distinct ways to gather resources; keep this route focused on asteroid ore when planning your cargo. If direct mining becomes slow or awkward, use the same confirmed sector as a candidate for a captain-led operation. Repeat, collect and use Repeatable while the selected sector remains reachable and contains useful asteroids; the haul varies from run to run.
Common mistakes Entering a sector without checking threat: select a safer area or bring protection before mining. Filling the hold far from a depot: plan the return and unload before beginning another sweep. Expecting map materials to be identical across worlds: confirm ore availability in your own galaxy. When to stop or switch Stop when the hold has enough ore for the current construction goal or the route’s risk and return travel exceed its value.
