WHERE & HOW TO FARM Where to farm A reachable galaxy-map sector with the target material and an area score appropriate to your ship’s defenses.
A Mining Operation assigns a ship and captain to work a selected asteroid area while you handle other tasks. The operation requires a mining turret, and its result is affected by turret efficiency and the selected area. Use scouting and a Mining Subsystem to make a better-informed choice, then retrieve and unload the ship before cargo or danger becomes a problem.
Before you go Ship equipped with at least one mining turret. Captain and crew able to take the operation. Cargo capacity for the expected raw-ore transport. Mining Subsystem or an advance scouting trip when available. Inspect the galaxy map for a sector with the ore you need and confirm the ship can travel there. Review the sector’s faction and threat context before selecting the operation area. Scout the area first when possible, and fit a Mining Subsystem if available to improve information and area scoring. Open the ship’s operation controls and select Mining Operation for the target sector. Check the displayed area score and cargo efficiency; add cargo capacity if the latter is poor for an R-mining ship. Start the operation and monitor the assignment, retrieving the vessel when cargo approaches capacity or risk rises. Bring the ship to a Resource Depot and refine or sell its raw ore. Compare the result with the route’s safety and travel burden before sending it again. Farming tips Faction-controlled areas are generally safer but may have lower area scores; unclaimed regions may be riskier. A high area score is a planning signal, not a guaranteed quantity of ore. Repeat, collect and use Repeatable in suitable sectors. Each operation’s yield and risk can change with area selection and ship setup.
Common mistakes Assigning a ship without a mining turret: equip one before issuing the operation. Ignoring travel access: move the ship within reach or select a sector it can navigate to. Treating scouting or a subsystem as a yield guarantee: use them to inform the choice, then judge the actual result. When to stop or switch Stop or change sectors when the miner is full, the operation becomes unsafe, or its returned ore no longer justifies the travel and risk.
