WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Hydras in Darkroot Basin and Ash Lake; dragon-related pickups in Ash Lake and Blighttown; drakes in Valley of Drakes.
Dragon Scales have several sources in the Remastered base game: fixed pickups, Hydra and Undead Dragon rewards, and chance-based drops from Valley of Drakes drakes. The fixed rewards are dependable but limited; the drakes are repeatable and uncertain. Scales can reinforce eligible dragon weapons or be offered to the Stone Dragon for covenant progress. Decide which use matters before hunting so you can stop when that target is met. The Hydra shoreline is dangerous, and Ash Lake requires a separate journey into a hidden area.
Bring ranged or reliable physical damage for the Hydra or drakes.
Have a safe retreat plan for shoreline and valley encounters.
Optional: equip Item Discovery gear for the repeatable drake drops.
Choose whether you want fixed pickups, boss rewards, or repeatable drake attempts.
For fixed rewards, search the described corpses in Ash Lake and the chest in the Blighttown pit.
Defeat the Darkroot Basin or Ash Lake Hydra for its scale reward, collecting it after the encounter.
For repeatable farming, approach the blue drakes in Valley of Drakes individually.
Defeat a drake and inspect the drop; collect any Dragon Scale found.
Return to a bonfire and repeat the drake section if more scales are still needed.
Farming tips
Dragon Scales can be used for dragon weapon reinforcement or covenant offering; keep the intended destination in mind.
The Hydra can attack from range at the water’s edge; draw it close enough to strike while avoiding a blind rush into deep water.
Repeat, collect and use
Fixed pickups and Hydra or Undead Dragon rewards are one-time per cycle. Valley of Drakes drakes respawn and can drop scales, but each drop is a chance.
Common mistakes
Counting fixed Ash Lake corpses as a repeatable farm: take each pickup once and then switch to a respawning enemy source.
Assuming every drake drops a scale: check each reward and plan for repeated attempts.
Offering all scales before checking weapon needs: decide whether covenant rank or weapon reinforcement is the priority.
When to stop or switch
Stop when you have the scales for the chosen weapon upgrade or covenant offering goal, or switch to fixed pickups if the drake loop is too risky.
