Where to farm

The Depths bonfire behind the locked door; the rat groups are in the nearby corridors.

The Depths offer several rat groups within a loop that starts and ends at the area bonfire. Rats may drop Humanity, but an individual pass can produce none, so treat this as a repeatable chance rather than a guaranteed payout. The route is useful when you want Humanity items and are already exploring the sewer area. Pick up each drop promptly, then spend or secure your gains before carrying a large stock into a dangerous area.

How to farm

Before you go

Reach The Depths and activate its bonfire.
Bring a weapon or spell that can clear small enemies reliably.
Optional: equip Item Discovery gear if available.

Rest at the Depths bonfire and leave through its doorway.
Turn right into the corridor and defeat the first group of rats.
Continue along the passage; check the box for a hiding rat before advancing.
Clear the next group, including the rats at the dead end.
Turn back toward the side doorway and clear the rats beyond it.
Check each corpse for a Humanity item, then return to the bonfire and rest.

Farming tips

Item Discovery gear improves the chance of a drop; the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring and Symbol of Avarice do not stack.
Humanity found as an item enters inventory; using it adds soft Humanity, which can be spent on kindling or restoring human form.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat the rat loop after resting. The route can be run as often as desired, but Humanity drops are random and are not guaranteed on each pass.

Common mistakes

Assuming a rat must drop Humanity: check the corpses, then reset and try another pass if none appears.
Rushing past the box and side passage: check both areas so you do not skip rats on the loop.
Carrying newly collected Humanity into an unsafe fight: use or bank it before taking a high-risk route.

When to stop or switch

Stop when you have enough Humanity for your planned bonfire kindling or human-form use, or switch to another goal if the route is no longer convenient.
