WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Flat or gently sloped soil near a sheltered base, ideally with water nearby and a clear approach.
Prepare a small patch of suitable soil, sow seeds, and return to check the plants. A plot is useful when you have a secure place to leave it and can make occasional visits without carrying every meal from town.
Choose soil that is not steep and where you can work without blocking your exit.
Use the farming tool to prepare a garden plot.
Open the seed packet or prepare the crop, then plant into the plot using the available interaction.
Check each planted patch for its condition and add water if it is dry.
Leave the plot exposed to rain when practical; rain can hydrate plants.
Return when the crop is ready, harvest it, and move the food to shelter or prepare it for a trip.
Farming tips
Work close to cover: digging and tending keep you in one place and can draw attention.
Keep the plot within a familiar route so you can check it without making a special exposed journey.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat the planting and harvest cycle whenever you have seeds and a usable plot. Save some healthy produce or seeds for the next cycle before consuming the crop.
Common mistakes
Planting on steep or unsuitable ground: move to a flatter patch before spending time on the plot.
Leaving plants dry: inspect their condition and water them when needed; exposed plants can also benefit from rain.
Eating the entire harvest immediately: reserve planting material first if you want another crop cycle.
When to stop or switch
Stop tending this plot if the area becomes unsafe, the soil is no longer usable, or you cannot make reliable return visits; move the garden closer to shelter.
