Seeds let you turn a scavenged vegetable into future garden harvests instead of treating it as a single meal.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Greenhouses, general stores, farm buildings, and a safe inventory stop where you can prepare produce.
Collect seed packets when you encounter them and use a knife to cut suitable produce into seeds. Keep planting stock separate from food so that hunger does not consume the next crop before it is planted.
Check greenhouses and food shelves during a supply route for seed packets.
Inspect found vegetables and keep sound produce that can be used for seed recovery.
At a safe stop, use a knife on the vegetable and collect the resulting seeds.
Keep seeds in a separate inventory slot or container from ready-to-eat food.
Take the seeds to a prepared garden plot and plant them according to the in-game interaction.
After a later harvest, reserve planting stock before eating, cooking, or storing the remaining crop.
Farming tips
Potatoes are planted whole rather than cut into seed packets.
Carry only the seed types you can use soon; bulky surplus can be left at a secure base.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat whenever you find new seed packets or suitable produce. Seed recovery from harvest makes the cycle renewable, but only while you preserve some output for planting.
Common mistakes
Cutting up all available food: reserve a meal if you need it and convert only enough produce to maintain planting stock.
Expecting potatoes to yield a packet: plant the potato whole.
Mixing seeds with food and eating them by mistake: store planting stock separately.
When to stop or switch
Stop collecting more seed types when your secure plot is supplied for the next planting cycle or when carrying them would displace food or essentials.
