Hell essence collection for a Token of Absolution

A complete set of four Hell essences can be cubed into a Token of Absolution, giving a repeatable way to reset character skills and attributes after free respecs are used.

Where to farm

Hell Andariel or Duriel for the Twisted Essence of Suffering, Mephisto for Charged Essence of Hatred, Diablo for Burning Essence of Terror, and Baal for Festering Essence of Destruction.

Collect one essence from each of the four Hell act bosses that can drop them, then combine the set in the Horadric Cube. Each boss run also yields ordinary drops, but essence collection is the reason to repeat the route; a token is only produced when the full set is assembled.

How to farm

Before you go

  • Reach Hell difficulty and have access to all four act bosses.
  • Be able to defeat each boss reliably and survive their damage.
  • Carry the Horadric Cube and inventory space for four distinct essences.
  1. Choose an act boss whose essence you still need.
  2. Travel to that boss and defeat it, collecting the essence if it drops.
  3. Store each essence separately and track which of the four types remain missing.
  4. Repeat the appropriate boss route when an essence has not appeared.
  5. When you have all four distinct essences, place them together in the Cube.
  6. Transmute to create a Token of Absolution and use it when you are ready to reset skills and attributes.

Farming tips

  • The token is a consumable reset; wait until you have a clear new build plan before using it.
  • Target only missing essence types to avoid spending time on bosses whose essence you already have.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable but drop-limited: bosses may require multiple kills for a particular essence, and each completed set makes one token.

Common mistakes

  • Trying to cube duplicates instead of one of each essence; verify all four names before transmuting.
  • Using the token before deciding your new skill and stat allocation; plan the respec first.
  • Assuming an essence drops every kill; keep repeating the corresponding boss until it does.

When to stop or switch

Stop once you have the token needed for your respec, or continue only if you want another reset token.
