Convert a Set Item in Kanai’s Cube

The Skill of Nilfur recipe can turn a duplicate set piece into another piece from its set, helping complete a build without another general loot hunt.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Kanai’s Cube in Adventure Mode, using Skill of Nilfur, the Convert Set Item recipe.

Use the Cube’s Convert Set Item recipe when you already own an unwanted duplicate from a set and need a different slot in that same set. The recipe consumes the original piece plus materials and returns another random set item from the same set. It cannot produce an Ancient item, so reserve it for filling missing slots rather than polishing a finished Ancient set.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Kanai’s Cube retrieved in the Ruins of Sescheron, Act III.
  • A duplicate set piece from the set you are completing.
  • 10 Forgotten Souls and 10 Death’s Breath per conversion.
  1. Open your set inventory and identify a duplicate piece you can safely spend.
  2. Check which missing slot belongs to the same set.
  3. Collect Forgotten Souls by salvaging unwanted legendary or set items and Death’s Breath from Nephalem Rift elites.
  4. Place the duplicate set item and the required materials into Kanai’s Cube.
  5. Select Skill of Nilfur and transmute the ingredients.
  6. Inspect the returned piece to see whether it fills the missing slot.
  7. If it does not, decide whether another duplicate and material cost justify another attempt.

Farming tips

  • Keep an equipped copy and any rare slot variants out of the Cube; the recipe consumes its input.
  • Use this to complete a set, not to chase Ancient quality, because the output cannot be Ancient.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat as materials and duplicate pieces allow. Each conversion produces a random piece from the same set, and there is no fixed number of attempts.

Common mistakes

  • Using a piece from the wrong set: output stays within the input item’s set. Confirm the set before transmuting.
  • Converting your only useful copy: keep the item needed for your current build and spend a spare.
  • Expecting an Ancient result: this recipe cannot create Ancient items. Switch to other drops or reforging for quality upgrades.

When to stop or switch

Stop when the missing set slot is filled or when remaining duplicates are more valuable to keep; pursue ordinary gear drops for Ancient upgrades.
