Upgrade elemental damage to sell value

This is a conditional mana conversion tactic for a weapon whose sale return can justify its upgrade cost.

PC / Global, original Dungeon Defenders edition
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Tavern weapon upgrade screen and forge selling interface.

Some weapons with elemental damage may be candidates for investment before sale, but the tactic only makes sense when the expected sale value exceeds the mana spent. Treat it as a comparison, not a guaranteed profit recipe. Ordinary surplus selling is safer when the weapon’s value or return is unclear.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Have a weapon with elemental damage that no hero needs.
  • Have mana available for a limited upgrade test.
  • Be able to compare upgrade cost with the weapon’s displayed sale value.
  1. Review an unwanted weapon and confirm it is not an upgrade or planned equipment for any hero.
  2. Inspect its elemental damage and current sale value in the Tavern interface.
  3. Open the weapon upgrade screen and note the cost of the intended investment.
  4. Apply an upgrade only if the displayed cost and likely resale return make the trial worthwhile.
  5. Recheck the weapon’s sale value after upgrading rather than assuming the return changed favorably.
  6. Sell the weapon only when the return exceeds the mana invested and the item remains surplus.
  7. Keep the proceeds for a useful upgrade or defense setup.

Farming tips

  • Test with one expendable weapon before considering this approach on more items.
  • If the interface does not make the economics clear, sell the item without upgrading it.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat only for individual surplus weapons when the value comparison is favorable; this is not a dependable unlimited-profit farm.

Common mistakes

  • Investing in equipment a hero needs: check every build and hero before selling.
  • Assuming elemental upgrades always increase net proceeds: compare actual cost and sale value.
  • Upgrading several items without a trial: evaluate one item at a time.

When to stop or switch

Stop this tactic as soon as the expected sale return fails to exceed cost; use ordinary loot sales instead.
