WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Crop plots in a connected settlement workshop area.

Settlers can be assigned to crop plots in a connected settlement. This supports recurring harvests for recipes such as vegetable starch, but it does not replace checking what crops are planted or collecting the ingredients. Assign workers to the garden you want maintained, then inspect the harvest and use it for the recipe or other planned settlement needs.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • A settlement with available settlers.
  • Corn, mutfruit, or tato planted in the settlement.
  • Workshop access to assign settlers.
  1. Enter Workshop mode at the settlement with your crop plots.
  2. Select an available settler and use the assignment interaction.
  3. Assign the settler to crop plots in that settlement.
  4. Check that the plot contains the crop types your recipe needs, including corn, mutfruit, and tato for vegetable starch.
  5. Exit Workshop mode and allow the settlement to maintain its production.
  6. Return to the plots or workshop inventory and collect available crops.
  7. Take the ingredients to a cooking station and craft or store them for later.

Farming tips

  • An assigned worker cannot correct a missing crop type; inspect the garden mix separately.
  • Keep a reserve of harvested produce for the recipes you plan to make before selling extras.

Repeat, collect and use

Assignments can support continuing crop production, with harvest collection recurring as the settlement produces crops. The output is conditional and should be checked in-game.

Common mistakes

  • Assigning settlers without planting the needed crops leaves the recipe short; supply the crop types first.
  • Assuming assignment alone puts harvested ingredients directly into your inventory can cause confusion; check the settlement or workshop storage.
  • Using every crop for sale can interrupt crafting; reserve recipe ingredients before trading.

When to stop or switch

Stop adding workers when the plots are maintained and harvest meets your crafting needs; assign settlers elsewhere if the garden is already sufficient.
