Aethersands come from a production chain: gather eligible items from ephemeral nodes as collectables, then use Aetherial Reduction on them. Reduction can produce sands and related crystals or clusters. Choose a node by first identifying the sand required by a craft you intend to make; an unspecified stockpile is less useful because reduction results vary. Collectability affects the outcome, so use the rating displayed in the gathering interface to guide your actions.
Before you go Complete No Longer a Collectable and The Better Half. A Botanist or Miner at the level required for the selected ephemeral item. Collectable actions and Aetherial Reduction available. Check your recipe and identify the type of aethersand it requires. Find a Dawntrail ephemeral node in the Gathering Log that yields a relevant collectable. Note its Eorzean-time window and travel to the zone before it opens. Select the eligible item as a collectable and use actions to reach a useful rating. Gather while the node is available, keeping the items as collectables. Use Aetherial Reduction on the gathered items from your inventory. Compare the resulting sands, crystals, or clusters with the craft plan and repeat only if stock is short. Farming tips Collectability affects reduction results; use the displayed rating rather than chasing an unsupported threshold. Timed nodes are unavailable during World Visit and Data Center Travel; gather on your home World. Repeat, collect and use Repeat at later ephemeral windows. Reduction results vary, so continue only while the planned craft needs more output.
Common mistakes Gathering ordinary items instead of collectables; select the collectable option at the node. Reducing items before identifying their recipe use; check the required sand first. Expecting a guaranteed amount of one sand type; assess actual output before planning another run. When to stop or switch Stop when the craft has enough required sand and companion materials. Choose a different ephemeral target for a different planned recipe.
