Decide which mineral you need and check that it occurs in the region you plan to explore.
Travel along rocky terrain and inspect mountain sides and outcrops for cave entrances.
Enter with your light ready and watch for cave creatures before committing to a fight.
Check cave walls and interior deposits for the target mineral.
Mine only the ore you can carry and use; leave unrelated veins if the load is getting heavy.
Return to your base or smelting setup and refine the ore for crafting.

Bring enough light and repair materials for the planned trip, not just the first cave.
On Prometheus, choose the region by its biome-specific ore availability before setting out.

Return when you have the amount needed for the next crafting or refining goal, or sooner if your supplies or carrying capacity are running low.
