Dimensional Butterflies are special encounters that can drop weapon upgrade materials, with their type or color indicating the material tier. Their locations are tied to chapter progression, so the useful approach is to clear each encounter while exploring and collect its drop before leaving. The Moonlight Town riverbed is a confirmed example with Crescent Moonstone drops; other encounters should be matched to the material actually shown in your inventory.
Before you go Progress far enough to reach areas containing Dimensional Butterflies. Have a weapon whose upgrade path could use the encountered material, or keep the drop for later. Be prepared to fight the butterfly before advancing away from its location. Explore the current story area carefully and watch for the distinct Dimensional Butterfly encounter. Approach the encounter without leaving the immediate area or advancing through a transition first. Defeat the butterfly and collect the material it drops. Check the item name and tier in your inventory rather than assuming every butterfly gives the same stone. In Moonlight Town, follow the uphill path from its Stargazer, cross the bridge, drop to the riverbed, and search for both butterflies there. Return to the weapon enhancement menu and compare the collected material with your intended blade’s next requirement. Continue the chapter after collecting the encounter drops you want. Farming tips Search the full local path for additional encounters; Moonlight Town’s riverbed contains two butterflies. Treat each chapter encounter as a collectible opportunity rather than a resettable Stargazer farm. Repeat, collect and use Encounter locations are fixed by chapter progression and each is collected once per playthrough. This does not provide a repeatable respawn loop.
Common mistakes Do not leave the area expecting to reclaim the same fixed butterfly drop later. Do not assume every drop is Crescent Moonstone; verify the material tier. Do not confuse standard weapon Moonstones with Covenant materials for special weapons. When to stop or switch Stop when the local butterflies are defeated and collected; continue on to the next chapter or return only to check a missed location.
