Collect carrots or potatoes with a Farmer villager

Java Edition · ongoing crop production from a managed villager plot.

Java Edition
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Java Edition — isolated crop plot assigned to a Farmer villager and connected to a tested collection point.

A Java Farmer villager can tend nearby farmland and plant or harvest crops when it has the needed items. For a collection farm, use a verified arrangement that captures harvested or shared crops; a chest beside a field does not automatically receive everything the villager harvests.

How to farm

Before you go

  • Farmer villager with a composter job site.
  • Farmland, water access and starter carrots or potatoes.
  • mobGriefing enabled for villager planting and harvesting.
  • A second villager and tested collection arrangement if using the food-sharing method.
  1. Set up farmland with water access in a plot the Farmer can reach and work.
  2. Assign the villager the Farmer profession with a composter and provide starter crops.
  3. Keep the plot positioned so the villager tends it rather than pathing to nearby village activity.
  4. Allow the Farmer to plant and harvest during its work schedule.
  5. Use a verified collection method; a second villager can receive surplus food thrown by the Farmer in designs that intercept those items.
  6. Check the collection point after the villager works and correct any route that lets crops remain outside storage.
  7. Collect the stored crops and replenish planting stock where required.

Farming tips

  • With mobGriefing false, villagers cannot plant or harvest crops and cannot pick up food items.
  • Farmer inventory capacity can affect crop handling; test the collection arrangement before relying on its output.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable while the villager can work, crops and conditions are available, mobGriefing permits the behavior, and collection functions.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming harvested crops always enter a chest: verify the collection route in your layout.
  • Blocking the Farmer's access to farmland or composter: keep its work area reachable.
  • Applying Bedrock village or simulation rules to Java: use Java mechanics for this farm.

When to stop or switch

Stop when stored crops cover your food or trading need; repair the collection path if crops stop reaching storage.
