WHERE & HOW TO FARM Where to farm Overworld — a base plot on sand or red sand with a safe drop-collection path.
Plant cactus on sand or red sand, preserve its base, and harvest detached upper growth. A regular furnace smelts collected cactus into Green Dye. If you automate collection, keep drops from touching cactus because cactus items are destroyed on contact.

Before you go Starter cactus and sand or red sand. A side-break obstruction such as a fence post, iron bars or glass pane for a simple harvester. Furnace and fuel for Green Dye. Chest or other storage; water and hoppers optional for collection. Place sand or red sand in a clear base plot and plant cactus on it. Leave room for the cactus to grow naturally; it needs no light and bone meal does not accelerate it. For manual collection, break upper cactus blocks while leaving the bottom block planted. For a simple automatic break, position a thin-hitbox obstruction beside the space where new upper growth forms. Keep the collection route below or away from the cactus so detached items do not touch the plant. Collect the cactus drops and place them in a regular furnace with fuel. Take the Green Dye output and store it for dye recipes or decoration. Farming tips A lower water stream can carry detached cactus toward hoppers, but check that the stream moves drops away from the cactus. Cactus can grow to three blocks naturally; adjust the harvest point to the growth you want to collect. Repeat, collect and use Repeatable while the planted base remains intact; cactus grows naturally, but processing consumes collected cactus.
Common mistakes Using a full-block obstruction that causes drops to touch cactus: use a thin-hitbox break block and test the collection path. Breaking the planted base: leave it in place for regrowth. Using bone meal or extra light expecting faster growth: cactus does not need light and Java bone meal does not accelerate it. When to stop or switch Stop smelting when your Green Dye stock meets the build's needs; leave planted cactus bases for later batches.
