WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Farmer Plot Automation

Farmland within the settlement, accessible to the Farmer and within any area restriction assigned to them.

Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Prepare farmland inside the settlement and put the seed types you want planted in accessible storage.
  2. Open the Settlement interface using C by default, then select the Farmer in the Settlers panel.
  3. Open Work Priorities and make sure Farming is enabled; raise its priority if other assigned jobs are taking precedence.
  4. Check the Restrict panel for an area assigned to the Farmer. Ensure it includes the field and storage, since settlers work only within their restriction area.
  5. Leave the field and seeds available while the Farmer plants and later harvests crops or fruit.
  6. Check the field and nearby containers to confirm planting and harvest are occurring; replenish seed stock from your own supplies if needed.
  7. Move harvested crops into settlement storage and use them for cooking; keep seed returns available for the next planting cycle.

Repeat, collect and use

This is a repeatable production loop: keep seeds accessible, let Farming work plant and harvest, collect the crop output, and retain or restock seeds for another planting. Recheck settings if the field stops being tended.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving Farming disabled or at a low priority while expecting field work: enable it and adjust its priority against competing jobs.
  • Restricting the Farmer away from the field or seed storage: expand or change the assigned area so both are reachable.
  • Expecting fertilizer use from Farming alone: enable Fertilize separately if you want the Farmer to speed crop growth.

When to stop or switch

Continue while the crops are useful for cooking or settlement stores. Switch the Farmer’s priorities or restrict the field work when another task becomes more valuable, and return to farming when you need more produce.
