Critter ranching

Drecko Shearing

Drecko shearing supplies material from a managed ranch when the animals, feed, and station are maintained.

PC / Global, base game; Spaced Out and planet packs are DLC
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Set up a Stable with Dreckos, a Shearing Station, and a drop-off configured for the species. Match the habitat to the animals’ needs and the plant-based feed being used.

Dreckos can be kept in a Stable and shorn at a Shearing Station. Successful ranching requires a skilled duplicant, appropriate feed, and an atmosphere and habitat suited to the animals. The output depends on the Drecko type and its growth; do not treat a particular material or quantity as guaranteed without checking the critter in your colony. Keep the station accessible and route collected material to storage or its intended production chain.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Dreckos and a Stable with an appropriate drop-off.
  • Duplicant with Critter Ranching skill.
  • Shearing Station accessible to ranching errands.
  • Suitable feed and atmosphere for the Drecko type.
  1. Build and designate a Stable, then place a Shearing Station where duplicants can reach it.
  2. Set an appropriate Drecko drop-off and wrangle or deliver animals into the room.
  3. Provide the correct plant feed for the selected Drecko type and maintain a suitable atmosphere.
  4. Assign a duplicant with Critter Ranching so grooming and shearing tasks can be performed.
  5. Check the station queue and allow the rancher to shear animals when they are ready.
  6. Collect the station output and store it or send it to the relevant production chain.
  7. Monitor feed stock, critter count, and room conditions before expanding the ranch.

Farming tips

  • Check the species and output in your colony before building downstream production around a presumed material.
  • A Thimble Reed farm is an alternative fiber route, but it has its own Polluted Water and seed requirements.

Repeat, collect and use

Shearing can recur while eligible Dreckos, rancher access, suitable feed, and station operation are maintained. Collect each output batch and continue ranch care; output type depends on the critter being raised.

Common mistakes

  • Putting Dreckos in a room without their appropriate feed or atmosphere; correct the habitat before expecting reliable ranch errands.
  • Building a station without a skilled rancher; assign Critter Ranching labor.
  • Planning around an unverified output; inspect the animal and station results, then adapt storage and production.

When to stop or switch

Expand only when feed and Stable capacity remain manageable. Switch to a crop-based material route if the Drecko diet or habitat costs are more difficult than the output is worth.
