WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Use a natural biome or preserved patch of natural tiles near the colony, with a pip able to reach the area and seeds available for planting.
Pips can plant seeds into natural tiles when planting conditions are valid. A player can use this behavior to establish wild plants in preserved terrain, creating a low-input source of food or materials. Wild crops grow more slowly than domesticated plants, so this method favors resource savings over fast harvests. Preserve the natural area and control which seeds pips can reach; the species and planting conditions determine whether a planting succeeds.
Seeds for the plant species you want to establish.
Suitable natural tiles and planting conditions for that species.
Access control so the pip can reach intended seeds and terrain.
Choose a natural area and preserve tiles that could support wild planting rather than replacing them with constructed flooring.
Select a target plant and verify that its species can grow in the local environmental conditions.
Make suitable seeds available to the pip and control access so it can reach the intended planting area.
Observe the area for planting activity and inspect newly planted seeds to confirm the plant and tile are valid.
Allow wild plants to grow without domestic irrigation or fertilizer buildings.
Harvest mature output when needed, leaving useful terrain intact if you want future wild growth.
Revisit the area and adjust seed access or terrain only if planting is not occurring.
Farming tips
Wild planting saves domestic crop inputs but grows more slowly; use it for reserves or low-pressure production rather than urgent demand.
Keep the natural terrain intact and check plant status before assuming a seed was successfully planted.
Repeat, collect and use
Pip planting can establish additional wild plants when seeds, pips, natural tiles, and valid planting conditions remain available. Harvests are repeatable only as plants grow and the area supports regrowth; do not treat a finite seed supply as unlimited.
Common mistakes
Replacing the natural tiles needed for planting; preserve appropriate terrain before introducing seeds.
Allowing access to the wrong seed or planting area; control what the pip can reach and inspect outcomes.
Expecting wild growth to match a domestic farm; use domestic crops when a faster, more managed supply is needed.
When to stop or switch
Stop seed delivery when the desired wild patch is established or the area’s terrain is exhausted. Switch to domestic farming if the colony needs predictable output or cannot preserve suitable natural tiles.
