Potatoes and beets support meals and can be replanted to make a renewable raft food supply.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Barrels and floating debris along the raft route, island loot containers, and raft Crop Plots for replanting.
Collect potatoes and beets from barrels, floating debris and island containers, then plant them in Crop Plots. Regular watering and protection turn the initial finds into a continuing source for cooking. Save seeds or spare crops for replanting instead of eating the whole supply.
Steer along the raft route and use the Hook to collect reachable barrels and floating debris.
Open each collected barrel and set aside potatoes, beets and any seeds you want to plant.
Explore island containers during stops for additional vegetable supplies.
Plant a potato or beet in a suitable Crop Plot on the raft.
Water the plot with fresh water and protect it with a Scarecrow or roof coverage.
Harvest the mature crop and keep some of the output for meals while reserving seed or produce for replanting.
Replant to maintain a raft supply rather than relying only on future barrels.
Farming tips
Keep at least one planting reserve before cooking a large batch.
Collect barrels during normal sailing so food gathering does not require a separate trip.
Repeat, collect and use
Barrel and island-container collection repeats as you travel. Crop production repeats by planting, watering, protecting and harvesting; retain a seed or crop for the next planting.
Common mistakes
Eating every potato or beet: save planting stock to sustain the plot.
Leaving planted crops dry: water with fresh water after planting.
Assuming barrels are the only source: island containers and raft crops also contribute.
When to stop or switch
Stop collecting extra vegetables when your food storage and planting reserve are sufficient; resume when meals or replanting draw down that stock.
