Prompt cutting and separated crop fields can reduce how much of a harvest a blight outbreak reaches.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Growing zones divided into separate crop areas with access for colonists assigned Grow work.
Blight can spread among nearby plants, so field layout and response time matter. Keep crop areas separated where practical, then act quickly when an outbreak is visible by cutting infected plants. Separation reduces the chance that one affected patch reaches every crop, but it does not make fields immune. Maintain food reserves and inspect nearby plants until the outbreak has been contained.
Growing zones arranged with separation between crop areas where practical.
A colonist assigned Grow work and available to cut plants.
Food reserves or another crop source in case the affected harvest is lost.
Clear access to infected plants and nearby zones for inspection.
Lay out fields as distinct zones rather than one continuous crop area when space allows.
Leave open separation between field areas where practical, especially around important staple crops.
Check crops regularly and respond when a blight warning or infected plants appear.
Prioritize cutting infected plants using the relevant zone or plant orders so they do not remain in the field.
Inspect plants in nearby zones and continue removing affected growth as needed.
Keep food stores and alternate crops available while the affected field recovers or is replanted.
After the outbreak is contained, review field spacing before the next planting cycle.
Farming tips
Separate fields by crop and purpose so you can inspect or cut one area without disrupting the entire farm.
Keep the Grow work queue available for urgent cutting when an outbreak appears.
Repeat, collect and use
Containment is an incident response, not a farmable reward. Blight outbreaks are episodic; repeat the inspection and cutting loop if another outbreak occurs.
Common mistakes
Leaving infected plants because the rest of the field looks healthy: cut affected plants promptly and inspect neighbors.
Planting every crop in an uninterrupted block: use separate zones and gaps where the map permits.
Assuming spacing prevents all blight: keep checking plants and retain food reserves.
When to stop or switch
Resume ordinary planting after no infected plants remain and the field is safe to replant; keep separated layouts for future crops.
