WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Animal Taming

A visible, tameable wild animal in the map’s Wildlife list, close enough for a handler to reach safely.

Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Open the Wildlife list and inspect the animal’s wildness, minimum handling requirement, and revenge risk.
  2. Choose a target the colony can handle and prepare suitable food; do not assume meals or drugs will serve as taming food.
  3. Issue the Tame order and ensure a qualified handler has Animal work enabled.
  4. Keep the area around the attempt safe and monitor for a failed-tame warning or animal aggression.
  5. After success, place a pen marker for a pen animal or assign an allowed area for an animal that can roam.
  6. Provide a sleeping spot and accessible food, then check the Animals tab to confirm the animal is managed.

Repeat, collect and use

Taming is repeatable for available wild animals, but each attempt can fail and the local wildlife population is finite. Purchased, event-joined, or born animals are different acquisition routes.

Common mistakes

  • Ignoring minimum skill or food requirements: verify both before issuing the order.
  • Leaving a newly tamed animal unmanaged: assign a pen or allowed area and provide food and sleeping space.
  • Treating repeated attempts as harmless: check revenge risk and keep colonists protected.

When to stop or switch

Stop attempts when the colony has enough animals, the handler is needed elsewhere, or the remaining targets pose more risk than their value warrants.
