WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
A Garden Plot inside your claimed flag area, with crop condition visible through the inspection interaction.
Start with a single plot and use its inspection information to guide expansion. SCUM 1.0 released on June 17, 2025, but this guide does not assume identical yields or growth across servers. Crop performance can depend on care, Farming skill, crop choice, and settings.
Plant one suitable seed in an accessible plot rather than building several beds at once.
Inspect the plot for sunlight, water, and plant condition before adding more crops.
Use a held water container with F on the plot when the inspection indicates water is needed; rainfall can also replenish it.
Remove weeds with a hoe and treat pests or fungus only when the crop condition calls for it.
Return to inspect the plants and learn how this site performs under the current server settings.
Harvest the crop when ready and note whether the produce and seed stock meet your actual needs.
Expand only after the first plot is manageable, placing new beds where they remain accessible.
Farming tips
Use observed plot conditions to decide whether to scale; calendar assumptions about growth do not account for settings.
Keep treatment supplies near the garden, but apply them only when the matching condition appears.
Repeat, collect and use
The care and harvest cycle repeats while you maintain crops and retain seeds. Garden expansion is optional and should follow successful care at the current site.
Common mistakes
Scaling before learning the first plot's needs multiplies maintenance; establish one working bed first.
Applying every treatment by default wastes supplies; respond to observed weeds, pests, or fungus.
Assuming a 1.0 release label guarantees identical crop behavior overlooks server and version variation; use current in-game indicators.
When to stop or switch
Hold at one plot if it is producing enough food or if its care is difficult to sustain; expand only when you can maintain the additional crops.
