Before you go
- 25 sticks for the Fish Trap blueprint, or a spear for direct catching.
- Access to water with visible fish.
- Fire or drying rack to process the catch.
Farming steps
- Walk along a river, stream, or lake and look for fish in the water.
- Choose a spot where fish are visibly present before spending materials.
- Use the guidebook to place the Fish Trap, keeping its submerged portion in the selected water.
- If you prefer direct catching, approach fish in shallow water with a spear and strike at them.
- Collect any fish caught by the trap when you return to check it.
- Bring fish to camp and cook the amount needed soon over a fire.
- Put surplus on a drying rack and carry preserved fish on your next trip.
- Trap placement is site-specific; visible fish are a better sign than choosing water at random.
- Combine trap checks with ordinary base returns instead of making repeated trips just to inspect it.
Repeat, collect and use
The trap is reusable and can provide repeat catches, but catches are not guaranteed on a fixed schedule; spear fishing can be repeated when fish are present.
Common mistakes
- Building a trap in water without visible fish; scout first and place it where fish can be seen.
- Expecting a precise catch rate or time; check the trap on normal returns.
- Leaving surplus fish raw; cook or dry it for useful food.
When to stop or switch
Stop spending sticks on additional traps once your current water spot supports the food you need; move to another visible-fish site if it remains unproductive.
