Fish Trap Loop
A river or stream at a spot where fish are visibly swimming, ideally near a base you visit regularly.
Before you go
- 25 sticks for the Fish Trap.
- Guidebook blueprint for construction.
- A drying rack or fire for processing collected fish.
Farming steps
- Walk the nearby river or stream and identify a section where fish are visible.
- Choose a spot with water access that you can check as part of normal camp returns.
- Open the guidebook and select the Fish Trap blueprint.
- Provide 25 sticks and place the structure so its submerged portion sits in the chosen water.
- Return to your base after ordinary outings and inspect the trap for a catch.
- Collect any fish present and bring them to the cooking area.
- Cook immediate meals over a fire and put surplus fish on a drying rack.
- Scout before building; an empty-looking stretch may not provide catches.
- Place the trap where a routine return passes it, reducing wasted trips.
Repeat, collect and use
Reusable and repeatable, but catches are not guaranteed on a set schedule; check during normal returns and move or add a trap only after reassessing visible fish.
Common mistakes
- Spending 25 sticks where fish are not visible; select the site first.
- Expecting a guaranteed catch each visit; treat it as supplemental food.
- Leaving the catch unprocessed; cook or dry it while at camp.
When to stop or switch
Stop adding traps when the current water spot supplies enough supplemental fish for your camp; switch to spearfishing or another stream if catches remain absent.
