Looted seeds let you start crop plots before a farm has produced its own planting stock and broaden the crops available at base.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Farmland plots and seed containers at Barbarian Barracks or Barbarian Fortresses in the base game.
Barbarian farmland can provide crop seeds, making hostile settlements a useful early supply stop. Treat this as a combat expedition with a specific farming goal: locate a barracks or fortress with farmland, clear enough guards to search safely, and inspect crop plots or seed containers. Bring the finds home and put them into Granary supply for the matching Farmland plot. Since seed availability can differ by settlement, take stock of what you actually found before planning a field around it.
Combat gear and healing supplies for a hostile settlement.
Inventory capacity for seeds and other loot.
A route back to base and access to Farmland/Granary if planting immediately.
Select a nearby Barbarian Barracks or Fortress that has visible farmland and plan a safe approach.
Enter cautiously and clear hostile guards that threaten access to the farm area.
Search farmland plots and seed containers for crop seeds rather than looting unrelated items first.
Record the seed types you obtained so you know which crops can be planted.
Return to base and place each seed type into the Granary supply or other farm storage.
Assign a matching crop to a Farmland plot and check its water and fertilizer requirements.
Reserve part of later harvests as seed stock to reduce future loot trips.
Farming tips
Loot the seed containers before committing to a particular crop layout; variety depends on what the settlement yields.
Leave room in your inventory so seeds are not displaced by incidental camp loot.
Repeat, collect and use
This is a repeatable exploration run only while suitable hostile farmland remains worth visiting; seed contents are not guaranteed. Once crops produce seed, use that reserve for ongoing planting.
Common mistakes
Entering a camp without combat preparation can interrupt the seed run; clear threats before searching.
Assuming every camp has every seed type leads to poor planning; build around seeds actually collected.
Using all found seeds at once can leave no reserve; save planting stock before expanding plots.
When to stop or switch
Stop raiding for seeds when your desired crop roster is established and your farm can retain seed for subsequent cycles.
