Kyanite

Kyanite is a late-game crafting material found in the lava regions; reach those areas with a depth-rated Prawn Suit and Drill Arm.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Large blue crystals in the Inactive Lava Zone and Lava Lakes.

The Inactive Lava Zone and Lava Lakes contain large Kyanite crystals suitable for drilling. This is a deep progression run, not an early material trip: descend through the Lost River only when your Prawn Suit can handle the route and you have a plan for repair and safe return. Bring the mined output back for recipes that require Kyanite.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Prawn Suit with Drill Arm and a depth upgrade appropriate to the lava zone route.
  • Thermal protection and vehicle repair supplies.
  • A safe route through the Lost River and enough vehicle condition for the return.
  • Storage capacity for the drilled material.
  1. Enter the Lost River using a route your vehicle can safely navigate and follow the lava corridor toward the Inactive Lava Zone.
  2. Check your Prawn Suit depth rating before continuing into the deeper region.
  3. Search cavern walls and surrounding terrain for large blue Kyanite crystals.
  4. Use the Drill Arm on large deposits and collect the resulting Kyanite.
  5. Watch vehicle condition and avoid lingering near hazards while mining.
  6. Continue toward the Lava Lakes only if your depth rating covers that route and you have a reason to gather more.
  7. Carry the Kyanite back to your base and use it in the required fabrication.

Farming tips

  • Do not take a Seamoth into this route; it is not suitable for the lava zones.
  • Keep the vehicle near the deposit while drilling so you can leave promptly if conditions become unsafe.

Repeat, collect and use

Kyanite deposits are finite. Return to the lava regions for additional deposits when a later fabrication requires more.

Common mistakes

  • Descending with insufficient depth protection: confirm the Prawn upgrade before committing to the route.
  • Attempting to mine large crystals without a Drill Arm: equip it before entering the lava regions.
  • Continuing into Lava Lakes without a reason or safe depth margin: gather what you need in the Inactive Lava Zone and turn back.

When to stop or switch

Leave once you have enough Kyanite for the planned fabrication or when your vehicle condition and depth margin no longer support a safe return.
