Scanning unfamiliar flora can add useful plant choices for later cultivation. Complete the field identification before leaving a biome so the base can make use of newly learned species.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
An expedition area with unfamiliar plant species and access to the mission scanner.
Use the current mission’s scan interaction on unfamiliar plant species, then check the available Cultivator selection afterward. The useful result is a known plant choice that can be tested in a supplied Cultivator field back at an outpost or base.
Campaign mission access to a biome with plant life.
Scanner or scan interaction available in the current mission.
Cultivator access at a base or outpost to use any newly available choice.
Open the mission area and identify unfamiliar plants in the field.
Use the in-game scan action on a species the base has not identified.
Check the interface for scan recognition or research progress.
Repeat on other unfamiliar species encountered before leaving the area.
Return to a base or outpost with a Cultivator.
Open the plant selection control and see whether the newly scanned species is available.
Select an available plant and confirm its displayed operating area before starting production.
Farming tips
Scan the plants you actually want to test before leaving the biome; later access may require another expedition.
Check the selection interface rather than assuming a scan has unlocked every related plant.
Repeat, collect and use
Scanning is repeatable for unfamiliar species encountered on new expeditions, but learning a given species is a one-time discovery. Cultivation then runs as a separate ongoing loop.
Common mistakes
Leaving without scanning unfamiliar plants: identify useful flora while it is accessible.
Assuming every scan grants a usable seed: verify the Cultivator’s actual selection list.
Starting a field without water or power: establish upkeep before expecting plants.
When to stop or switch
Stop scanning once the species of interest is identified and its availability is confirmed; return to resource gathering if no useful plants remain in the area.
