Scrap and Metal

Scavenging ordinary Ruins produces Scrap Metal that a Smelter can process into Metal Blocks for later construction.

PC / Global, 1.0 released March 12, 2026
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

A Scavenger Flag placed so its displayed work area overlaps ordinary Ruins, with storage and a Smelter reachable by district hauling.

A Scavenger Flag gathers Scrap Metal from ordinary Ruins in its work area. The worker does not need a path into the ruins, but the flag needs reachable storage for its output. Underground Ruins are outside this collection method. Once collected, scrap can be sent to a Smelter for conversion into Metal Blocks.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • A staffed Scavenger Flag covering ordinary Ruins.
  • Accessible storage for Scrap Metal output.
  • A Smelter and a reachable route for processing scrap into Metal Blocks.
  • Workers and paths for the flag, storage, and Smelter.
  1. Inspect the map for ordinary Ruins and place the Scavenger Flag so its work area covers them.
  2. Assign a worker to the flag and provide nearby storage space for Scrap Metal.
  3. Allow collection to proceed; no path into the ruins is needed for this work.
  4. Check the flag’s internal output and storage access if collection stops moving.
  5. Haul Scrap Metal to a Smelter and confirm it has the operating conditions and input route it needs.
  6. Store the resulting Metal Blocks where construction can access them.
  7. Recheck the flag’s work area as Ruins are depleted and reposition only if other ordinary Ruins can be covered.

Farming tips

  • The flag cannot collect from Underground Ruins, so do not use those as the target for this setup.
  • When the flag’s internal output fills, accessible storage and hauling determine whether collection can continue.

Repeat, collect and use

Scrap collection is limited by the ordinary Ruins in range; it is not a renewable farm. Smelting and moving collected scrap can repeat only while Scrap Metal remains available.

Common mistakes

  • Placing the flag over Underground Ruins: target ordinary Ruins that the flag can collect from.
  • Expecting workers to enter ruins: the Scavenger Flag collects from its work area without paths into them.
  • Leaving output blocked: provide storage and a hauling route, then check the flag inventory.

When to stop or switch

Stop assigning workers when accessible Ruins in range are depleted or no Scrap Metal remains; keep the Smelter supplied only while scrap and Metal Block demand justify it.
