Upgrade an item to extend its useful life

Invest crafting resources in a strong existing item with useful affixes when its one available upgrade can keep it competitive.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

The crafting interface, with an eligible existing item selected from your inventory.

Crafting can upgrade an existing item once, so this is a targeted way to extend a useful piece of gear rather than a way to scale it indefinitely. Consider an item whose affixes fit your build and whose current base is worth keeping. Compare it with recent drops before spending: a newer replacement may be a better use of your resources. The crafting interface shows the requirements and proposed result, while repeated crafting increases material and gold costs. Use that displayed information to judge the investment, then equip the upgraded item if it remains useful. Crafting modifies items you already own; it does not create gear from scratch.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Unlock crafting in the current Early Access build.
  • Own an item with a base and affixes worth retaining.
  • Have the materials and gold shown in the crafting interface.
  1. Review your equipped gear and recent drops to identify an item that still serves your build.
  2. Compare the candidate with available replacements, including its base and affixes.
  3. Open crafting and select the existing item you intend to improve.
  4. Choose the item upgrade option shown in the interface.
  5. Check the displayed cost and proposed result before committing materials and gold.
  6. Apply the upgrade once if the item remains a better investment than a replacement.
  7. Compare the result with your current equipment and equip it if it helps your build.

Farming tips

  • Reserve the one upgrade for an item you expect to use; the same piece cannot be upgraded repeatedly.
  • Read the interface cost before spending, since repeated crafting actions increase material and gold costs.

Repeat, collect and use

Each item can be upgraded once. You can upgrade other eligible items, but there is no repeat upgrade loop for the same piece.

Common mistakes

  • Upgrading gear you expect to replace soon: compare it with recent drops first.
  • Assuming the item can receive more than one upgrade: treat the operation as a single use per item.
  • Spending without checking the cost: review the crafting interface requirements before confirming.

When to stop or switch

Stop once the chosen item has received its upgrade or a stronger replacement makes the investment unnecessary. Move resources to another promising item or an affix change.
