Keep crafting panel, using an Exotic item in your inventory and Bright Dust materials.

If you already own an Exotic (orange) item that suits your build, the crafting panel can upgrade it to Veteran rarity using five Bright Dust. This is a targeted processing step: the item you choose matters, and the upgrade spends a scarce material. Bright Dust comes from salvaging unwanted Veteran equipment, so this route links duplicate red drops to a chosen campaign item. Check the in-game recipe and target before confirming the conversion.

How to farm

Before you go

  • Own the Exotic item you intend to upgrade.
  • Have five Bright Dust, obtained by salvaging unwanted Veteran equipment.
  • Confirm the item is the correct slot and suitable for the hero or build.
  1. Open the Keep’s crafting panel and locate the Veteran upgrade option.
  2. Select the Exotic item you intend to improve.
  3. Check the selected item’s name, slot, and current rarity carefully.
  4. Verify that the recipe requires five Bright Dust and that your balance covers it.
  5. Confirm the upgrade only after checking the target item again.
  6. Inspect the resulting Veteran item in your inventory.
  7. Equip it on the intended hero or retain it for the build it supports.

Farming tips

  • This method targets an item you already own; it does not create an arbitrary weapon that is missing from your inventory.
  • Keep useful Veteran drops intact until you have enough surplus items to fund the upgrade.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat for another eligible Exotic item whenever you have another five Bright Dust. Each upgrade consumes the dust; it is not a free or weekly reward.

Common mistakes

  • Selecting the wrong Exotic item; recheck its name and slot before confirmation.
  • Assuming ordinary crafting materials substitute for Bright Dust; use the material the recipe displays.
  • Spending dust needed for an unlocked DLC weapon; compare your competing crafting goals first.

When to stop or switch

Stop once the chosen item reaches Veteran rarity or when upgrading it would consume dust reserved for a more important target.
