Harvesting and storing farm crops before freezing weather gives you a planned food reserve when growing stops.

Use the growing season to turn seeds into harvests, then move the crop into storage or cooking before winter conditions arrive. Farm plots can be fertilized to help crops grow, but fertilizer does not make plants grow below freezing. The useful winter strategy is preparation: finish the crop cycle in time, store food safely, and hold some planting stock for a later season. A farm is a seasonal food source, so pair it with other supplies rather than assuming it will keep producing through cold weather.
Repeat the seasonal plant, harvest, and reserve cycle when growth conditions permit. Winter production is limited: crops do not advance below freezing, so stored food bridges the gap.
Stop depending on the plots once freezing conditions halt growth or your stored food reserve is adequate. Resume planting when suitable conditions return.
