Caves, mines, and fixed pickups in regions reached during the Somber Smithing Stone progression route.

Somber Smithing Stones are used to reinforce unique armaments, and their tiers are tied to progression through different regions. Regional pickups are finite, so collect the tier your weapon needs and use it rather than repeatedly searching the same route for a respawning stone. When recurring supply matters, deliver Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearings to the Twin Maiden Husks. The route and available tiers depend on where the character has progressed in the base game and any expansion content.

How to farm

Before you go

  • Identify the next Somber tier shown on your unique weapon’s reinforcement screen.
  • Reach a region appropriate to that tier and its associated cave or pickup.
  • Bring healing and a suitable weapon for any enemies guarding the route.
  1. Check the weapon’s next upgrade requirement before leaving for a stone search.
  2. Travel to an accessible region where that tier is available and locate its named cave or fixed pickup.
  3. Explore side passages and visible item locations rather than assuming the main path holds every stone.
  4. Defeat or bypass guards that prevent safe access to the item.
  5. Collect the stone and confirm its tier in inventory.
  6. Return to a smith and reinforce the unique armament if you have the required runes.
  7. When the fixed supply is exhausted, locate and deliver the matching Bell Bearing for repeat purchases.

Farming tips

  • Unique weapons use one Somber Stone per upgrade tier; standard weapons follow a different material track.
  • Gather only the tier you need now, since later areas can expose higher tiers before your weapon is ready for them.
