Where to farm
Mines and later game areas that contain Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearings; the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold receive them.
Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearings are progression pickups from mines and later areas. Offer them to the Twin Maiden Husks to add the bearing’s Somber Smithing Stone tiers to their inventory for repeat purchases. Different bearings cover different tiers, so unlock them as your unique armament approaches each upgrade stage. This is a base-game progression system, available whether or not Shadow of the Erdtree is installed.
Own a unique weapon that uses Somber Smithing Stones.
Reach the bearing’s mine or region; some are guarded by bosses.
Bring a suitable weapon, healing, and enough runes for stones after the unlock.
Inspect the unique weapon’s reinforcement screen and note its next Somber tier.
Find the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing associated with that tier in its mine or region.
Explore the route to the bearing and defeat its guarding enemy if required.
Collect the bearing and travel to Roundtable Hold.
Offer it to the Twin Maiden Husks.
Check the shop to verify the newly listed Somber tiers.
Buy the needed stone and take it to a smith to reinforce your armament.
Farming tips
The first Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing is obtained from the Fallingstar Beast in Sellia Crystal Tunnel and unlocks tiers 1 and 2.
Iji can sell early Somber tiers; check his stock if you need an immediate upgrade before pursuing a bearing.
Repeat, collect and use
Each bearing is collected once. The shop stock it unlocks can be purchased repeatedly with runes, including tiers through 9 as later bearings are delivered.
Common mistakes
Expecting every bearing to unlock the whole Somber track: inspect the shop after each delivery and continue progression for higher tiers.
Using the standard miner bearing route for a unique weapon: Somber tiers have their own bearings.
Attempting a guarded mine without preparation: use healing and a fitting damage approach for its boss.
When to stop or switch
Stop the bearing route when the Husks stock the next tier your weapon needs; resume when a later reinforcement requires another tier.
