Coal and Stone

Coal supports smelting while stone supports construction, so collecting both can keep separate workshop needs supplied.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Quarry stone piles and underground mine deposits north of the homestead.

The quarry and mine supply different useful materials. Gather stone where quarry blocks are available and collect coal from mine deposits; then route each resource to its own purpose. Stone is construction stock for building and processing, while coal is fuel for the Furnace. Mining access and tool needs depend on your progression.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • A Pickaxe for mining and quarry work.
  • Access to the quarry and mine sections you intend to visit.
  • A Furnace if you plan to consume coal for smelting.
  • Inventory room to carry separate stone and coal stacks.
  1. Check that the northern quarry and mine paths are open and bring a Pickaxe.
  2. Visit accessible quarry stone blocks and mine them for stone.
  3. Continue to the mine deposits and collect coal where present.
  4. Keep coal and stone in separate inventory or storage stacks.
  5. Return to the homestead and place coal in Furnace fuel storage when smelting is planned.
  6. Take stone to the stonecutter or construction station for the recipe you need.
  7. Replenish whichever stack falls below the next displayed building or smelting requirement.

Farming tips

  • Do not treat coal and stone as interchangeable hauling: each feeds a different station or task.
  • Check recipe requirements before collecting; construction and furnace demand can change with your current projects.

Repeat, collect and use

Gathering can be repeated as accessible resources allow; route access and deposits are tied to progression.

Common mistakes

  • Taking only stone when a smelting task also needs fuel: check the Furnace first.
  • Using coal as general construction stock: reserve it for the fuel chain unless a recipe specifies otherwise.
  • Filling inventory with one material: leave room for the second resource or make separate trips.

When to stop or switch

Stop when you have enough fuel for the planned smelting and enough stone for the next build; switch to the depleted material later.
