Prospect and Workshop planning

Workshop Farming Packets

A Farming Packet gives you seeds for a chosen crop at the start of a prospect, letting you plan a farm without first finding that crop in the wild.

PC / Steam / current live version; Olympus, Styx and Prometheus maps
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Workshop at the Orbital Station before launching a new prospect; an Orbital Exchange Interface on Icarus may also offer Workshop purchases during a prospect.

Choose a packet when a specific crop supports your prospect plan, such as ingredients for meals or a production chain. It supplies seeds; you must provide the planting space and growing supplies separately. Before spending Workshop currency, decide where you will plant and how you will use the harvest. To bring a packet on a new prospect, equip it before launch so it arrives in dropship cargo.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Workshop access and enough of the currency shown for the chosen Farming Packet.
  • A crop goal and access to a Dirt Mound or Crop Plot for planting.
  • For delivery at prospect start, an available loadout slot and a new prospect launch.
  1. Choose a crop for a specific use you can support on this prospect, such as food or a planned production chain.
  2. Open the Workshop and find the Farming Packet for that crop.
  3. Check the displayed cost, then acquire the packet if it fits your plan and budget.
  4. For a new prospect, equip the packet in your loadout and verify it is selected before launching.
  5. After landing, retrieve it from dropship cargo. During an active prospect, check an Orbital Exchange Interface for the packet’s availability.
  6. Prepare a Dirt Mound or Crop Plot and gather the water, fertilizer, or other supplies the crop needs.
  7. Open the packet, plant its seeds, and tend the crop. Harvest for your intended use, retaining seed stock if you want to replant.

Farming tips

  • Check that the crop fits your available space and growing supplies before buying its packet.
  • Confirm the packet is in dropship cargo after landing; it must be equipped before launch to arrive with you.

Repeat, collect and use

A packet is a purchased seed supply, not a renewable field drop. Buy another when you need more starting seeds and can afford its displayed cost. For ongoing production, replant from harvest and retain seeds when available.

Common mistakes

  • Launching without equipping the packet: add it to the loadout and confirm the selection before starting the prospect.
  • Expecting the packet to include a plot or growing supplies: prepare planting space and the crop’s requirements separately.
  • Opening the packet before choosing a planting place: set up the Dirt Mound or Crop Plot first so you can plant the seeds where you intend to grow them.

When to stop or switch

Stop buying packets once you have enough seeds to establish the crop and continue planting from retained stock. Reconsider the purchase if your stock will not sustain the farm or a different prospect calls for another crop.
