WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Workshop yard in Planting Mode, using Straw Grid or Biocrust as the prepared soil.
Planting Mode prepares the crop bed, places seeds, and handles watering and fertilizer. Crops can grow in any season, though some seasons suit particular growth better. Reusing prepared soil makes the next planting simpler.
A Planting Kit and materials to prepare soil, such as Straw for Straw Grid.
Water for irrigation and fertilizer if you plan to use it.
Open yard space sized for the chosen crop.
Choose a clear section of the Workshop yard and enter Planting Mode.
Lay Straw Grid or Biocrust over the area you want to cultivate.
Select the seed and check its footprint before placing it in the prepared soil.
Plant the seed, then use Planting Mode to water the crop.
Apply fertilizer through the planting controls if you have it and want to improve the planting conditions.
Check the crop as it develops and wait until its in-game state indicates it is ready to harvest.
Collect the harvest and reuse the soil for another crop, or expand the bed if you need more output.
Farming tips
Leave surrounding tiles open before planting larger crops; a seed’s footprint can exceed a single tile.
Crop growth works across seasons, but season differences can affect speed, so plan around the crop’s current growth.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat planting, watering, and harvesting on prepared soil. Each harvest depends on the planted crop and its growing cycle; this is a renewable farm when seeds are available.
Common mistakes
Planting before checking the footprint can block a larger crop; clear enough tiles first.
Forgetting water interrupts crop care; check beds during routine Workshop rounds.
Assuming all crops grow equally fast in every season can mislead planning; use the visible crop progress.
When to stop or switch
Harvest when ready, then replant only as much as your water reserve and upcoming recipes or orders justify.
