Lavatory Water-Positive Loop

A Lavatory and Water Sieve can return more water than the bathroom consumes, while requiring germ-aware handling.

In the base game, each Lavatory use produces more Polluted Water than the clean water it consumes. Sieving the output can therefore make the bathroom loop water-positive by 6.7 kg per use. That extra water is useful only if the system can handle the polluted output and its germs. Food Poisoning germs persist through the relevant water process, so keep sanitation checks in the plan before sending output to a germ-sensitive destination.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Build a bathroom with Lavatories, pipe their Polluted Water output to a Water Sieve, and send the clean output to a controlled reservoir or bathroom supply line. Keep germ monitoring on the route.

Before you go

  • Lavatory connected to clean-water input and Polluted Water output pipes.
  • Water Sieve and filtration medium.
  • Separate clean and polluted liquid routing.
  • Germ monitoring and a plan for contaminated water.
  1. Place the Lavatory and connect its input to the bathroom’s clean-water supply.
  2. Pipe Lavatory Polluted Water to a dedicated polluted-water line rather than mixing it with clean supply.
  3. Connect the polluted line to a Water Sieve and provide the required filtration medium.
  4. Route the sieve’s clean output to a separate reservoir where its germ level can be checked.
  5. Use the loop’s water balance to supply the bathroom or another appropriate destination while accounting for the 6.7 kg per-use surplus.
  6. Monitor germ levels; do not treat sieving alone as sterilization.
  7. Manage overflow deliberately, sending excess to a compatible crop or another planned sink.

Farming tips

  • The positive water balance does not remove the need for germ controls; keep the clean output’s intended use in mind.
  • A Thimble Reed farm is one possible Polluted Water sink when fiber is useful and the crop can accept the flow.

Repeat, collect and use

This is a repeatable bathroom loop while duplicants use the Lavatory and the Sieve has filtration medium and capacity. Collect the clean-water surplus and route overflow deliberately; the excess is limited by actual bathroom use.

Common mistakes

  • Returning bathroom water without checking germs; monitor contamination and provide a suitable treatment step for sensitive uses.
  • Mixing polluted output with clean input before sieving; maintain separate lines and reservoirs.
  • Letting overflow back up; plan a compatible crop or storage destination for the surplus.

When to stop or switch

Stop expanding the bathroom loop when its clean-water output exceeds useful storage and overflow capacity. Add a sink or reduce the loop’s connection to other systems before pipes back up.
