Build Agriculture Skill Through Crop Harvests

Harvesting crops you planted advances Agriculture while producing food for meals or preservation.

PC / Global, Build 42 Early Access
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

A protected base plot with crops you planted and a safe place to sort the harvest.

In Build 42, Agriculture progression is tied primarily to harvesting crops you grew. Make a modest planting plan, keep plants healthy through growth, and time harvesting for when you can process the yield. Reading the matching skill book before a harvest can improve learning according to the game’s book system. This is progression tied to successful crops, not a shortcut that guarantees a level. Food and any returned seed are useful outputs alongside skill progress.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Seeds and a crop bed suitable for the current sowing window.
  • An Agriculture skill book appropriate to your current level, if available.
  • Tools, water, and time to care for the crop.
  • Kitchen or preservation capacity for the output.
  1. Check the crop’s current sowing window and plant only a bed you can maintain.
  2. If you have the matching Agriculture book, read the relevant tier before the expected harvest.
  3. Inspect plants regularly and respond to water, weeds, or health issues shown in-game.
  4. Wait for each plant to reach its harvestable state rather than collecting early by guesswork.
  5. Harvest crops you planted and collect the resulting produce and any seed shown.
  6. Sort output: reserve viable seed, set aside meal ingredients, and process surplus promptly.
  7. Review Agriculture skill progress and plan another suitable sowing cycle using available seed.

Farming tips

  • Harvesting crops you planted is the supported progression action; preparing soil or watching plants does not replace it.
  • Use skill books before a planned harvest when available, and keep the crop plan small enough to protect output.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat across planting windows with seeds and care supplies; Agriculture progress depends on viable harvests and is not a one-time activity.

Common mistakes

  • Planting out of season for quick progress; follow the crop calendar and wait for a supported window.
  • Letting plants fail through neglected care; inspect the plot so seed investment can yield harvest XP and food.
  • Cooking all output before checking seed; inspect harvest results, then divide food and seed.

When to stop or switch

Pause planting if water, time, or preservation capacity cannot support another bed; use the current harvest and resume when resources allow.
