WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
A factory row connecting an ore buffer, Smelter, and ingot storage or consumer.
Build a clear path from raw ore to a Smelter and keep ingot output buffered for downstream recipes. The early guide records a limestone and copper-component construction requirement for the Smelter, so check its current build panel before committing resources. Keep metals separated to prevent a mixed belt from starving a recipe.
Smelter unlocked and construction ingredients shown in its panel.
Raw ore supply from hand collection or a Mining Drill.
Inserters and containers or belts to move input and output.
Power or fuel arrangement if required by the current machine setup.
Choose one metal for the first line and place a labeled raw-ore buffer near the Smelter.
Check the Smelter build recipe in game; the early guide lists 15 Copper Components and 96 Limestone as its inputs to build.
Place the Smelter with a clear route from ore storage to its input port.
Add an Inserter or belt transfer that actually connects to the machine port.
Set the Smelter to the intended ore recipe using the available machine controls.
Route ingots from the output port to a separate container or dedicated belt.
Feed the ingot buffer into component production or reserve it for terminal and elevator tasks.
Farming tips
Avoid mixing iron and copper on an unfiltered line; dedicated buffers make recipe shortages visible.
The example throughput ratio in the progression guide is illustrative; check current machine rates before scaling.
Repeat, collect and use
The line repeats continuously while ore, operating supply, and output space remain available. Vein extraction itself is finite, so connect another deposit when the source runs out.
Common mistakes
Assuming the Smelter’s build recipe is its processing recipe: inspect both panels separately.
Leaving output without storage: a full port or belt can halt the chain.
Scaling from an outdated rate assumption: verify current machine output before adding drills.
When to stop or switch
Stop expanding the line when the ingot buffer reliably meets current component and progression demand; add another source or smelter only when the buffer falls behind.
