WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
At a map-water source accessible to the faction’s pump, with Water Tanks connected to the district’s path and hauling network.
A Water Pump draws map water and produces the drinkable Water good; Water Tanks store that good. This is separate from retaining water in a terrain reservoir for irrigation. Keep the pump reachable by its workers, tanks accessible to hauling, and storage close enough to the population that the reserve is useful.
A faction-compatible Water Pump that can reach the source.
Water Tanks with space for the produced Water good.
Workers and paths to the pump, tanks, and the beavers who need water.
Inspect the water source and select a pump compatible with the faction.
Place the pump so its intake reaches map water; a Folktails Water Pump can draw from up to two blocks deep.
Place Water Tanks on accessible paths where workers and haulers can reach them.
Staff the pump and check its status to confirm it is producing drinkable Water.
Allow hauling to move Water into tank storage, and inspect inventories if the tanks remain empty.
Build reserve before drought or other expected interruption to the source.
Keep the tanks accessible to the beavers and district that need the stored good.
Farming tips
The Folktails pump holds up to 15 Water internally, so storage access matters when output stops moving.
Use terrain reservoirs and dams for managing map water; use pumps and tanks to store drinkable Water.
Repeat, collect and use
Pumping and storing water is repeatable while the source, workers, and tank capacity remain available. Refill the tanks whenever production resumes and consumption has reduced the reserve.
Common mistakes
Confusing a terrain reservoir with stored drinkable Water: use a pump and tank for the Water good.
Placing a Folktails pump too far above or away from water: confirm the intake reaches the source.
Letting full or inaccessible storage stall output: provide tank space and a usable path for hauling.
When to stop or switch
Stop adding tanks when the reserve meets the colony’s practical needs and production is not blocked by storage; add capacity or move pumping if the current reserve falls short before drought.
