WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Grocers, diners, residential housing, botanists and farms on the selected vanilla map; planted Wheat Seed near base for ongoing production.
Wheat has two useful roles: it is a lootable food item, and it can be grown from Wheat Seed. You can find it in several civilian and farm building types, then switch to a planted crop once you have a seed. The practical loop is to secure the first grain, establish a plot and reserve enough output to plant again.
Wheat Seed or Wheat that can be converted into one.
A safe planting surface if you plan to grow more.
Search a grocer, diner, residence, botanist or farm building for Wheat; these are possible sources, not guaranteed drops.
Take Wheat and Wheat Seed if available, leaving unrelated loot when inventory space is tight.
At base, use the Wheat-to-Wheat-Seed conversion if you need a seed to start the crop loop.
Plant the seed on a legal farm surface and wait until the plant is ready to harvest.
Collect mature Wheat and check the resulting inventory before eating it.
Set aside a seed for replanting, crafting one from Wheat if needed.
Use only the surplus as food or additional seed material.
Farming tips
A crop plot reduces dependence on finding Wheat on every run.
Agriculture improves crop and plant harvesting if you regularly gather farm output.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat the civilian or farm search until you have enough Wheat or a starting seed. After planting, harvest and retain seed stock each cycle; the initial loot run is not required every time.
Common mistakes
Treating Wheat itself as a placeable crop: plant Wheat Seed.
Spending all Wheat immediately: first secure the seed reserve needed for another planting.
Expecting a particular building to always spawn Wheat: check another supported building type or grow it.
When to stop or switch
Stop searching once the food and seed reserve is sufficient; switch to the planted crop for future supply.
