Cargo Capacity Planning

A repeatable logistics method for reducing wasted mining trips and keeping raw ore moving to processing.

PC / Global, current base game
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Ship outfitting and operation planning before a mining assignment, with a Resource Depot selected as the return point.

Mining cargo planning begins with the run’s transport needs: R-mined ore occupies space until it reaches a Resource Depot. Fit capacity for the route and likely haul, then check remote-operation cargo efficiency before sending the ship. Unload and process at a known depot so each run has a clear return and collection loop.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Mining ship with a working mining turret.
  • Cargo capacity appropriate to raw-ore collection and travel distance.
  • A reachable Resource Depot for unloading and refining.
  • Target ore and intended construction reserve identified before departure.
  1. Pick the ore goal and locate a sector that contains it on the galaxy map.
  2. Identify a reachable Resource Depot and consider the return distance before choosing the sector.
  3. Inspect the ship’s cargo room and preserve space for raw ore, equipment, or other planned cargo.
  4. For a remote R-mining assignment, check the operation’s cargo-efficiency display before starting.
  5. Add cargo capacity or select a closer sector if the displayed logistics make the run inefficient.
  6. Mine directly or dispatch the captain, then retrieve the ship before its hold prevents a practical return.
  7. Unload at the depot, refine the required amount, and keep a reserve for construction.
  8. Repeat with the same configuration if it works, or adjust cargo and route based on the actual delivery.

Farming tips

  • Cargo capacity matters especially for R-mining because the output must travel as raw ore before refining.
  • For stations, check local prices and size storage to expected production rather than building oversized cargo capacity by default.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable planning and unload loop; cargo blocks are a persistent ship choice, while each haul and operation result varies.

Common mistakes

  • Planning around refined material instead of raw cargo volume: account for the ore carried on the return leg.
  • Ignoring depot distance: choose a reachable processing point before launching.
  • Adding cargo without checking the real bottleneck: compare operation cargo efficiency and travel before rebuilding.

When to stop or switch

Stop adding capacity once the ship can complete the intended route with acceptable cargo efficiency and return safely; use spare resources to address a different limiting factor.
