WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Crop seeds found during Forest surface and cave exploration; grow them in settlement Farmland.

Crops are cultivated from seeds found while exploring; naturally growing plants are a separate source of materials. Use Forest exploration to look for seeds, then grow the seeds you find in settlement Farmland. Harvested crops can be used for cooking, and crop seeds can support further planting when available. The particular seeds you discover determine what you can grow, so build your field around useful finds rather than assuming every crop grows wild near the starting area.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Crop seeds found during exploration.
  • Farmland in your settlement.
  • A way to store or carry harvested crops and seeds.
  1. Explore Forest surface areas and caves, collecting crop seeds you encounter.
  2. Keep different seed types identifiable so you can choose which crops to plant.
  3. Return to your settlement and use Farmland for cultivated crops.
  4. Plant the seeds you want to turn into produce.
  5. When crops are ready to collect, harvest them and separate produce from any seeds returned.
  6. Use harvested crops in cooking where a recipe calls for them, or store them for later.
  7. Set aside seeds you want to plant again before using the rest of the harvest.

Farming tips

  • Keep a reserve of each useful seed type so a harvest can support another planting.
  • Start with crops you have a cooking use for, then expand as you find additional seeds.

Repeat, collect and use

Planting and harvesting can be repeated while you have seeds to plant. Seed availability and returns depend on the crop; do not assume every harvest replaces the seed used.

Common mistakes

  • Treating every wild plant as a crop: cultivate crops from seeds in Farmland.
  • Using all seeds immediately: reserve some for another planting if you want to continue that crop.
  • Collecting produce without a purpose: store it or use it in cooking rather than carrying unwanted surplus.

When to stop or switch

Stop expanding a crop when your stored produce covers the cooking needs you have; plant more when demand or seed supply makes it useful.
