Settlement Worker Tasks

Settlement work assignments let settlers handle recurring production and material movement.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Settlement interface, opened with the default Control (C) key, and work areas within the settlement.

Settlers can perform work automatically within the settlement, and the Settlement interface lets you manage priorities, restrictions and workers. Matching a task to the right worker and making its stations or supplies accessible is the core setup. Work includes hauling, crafting, forestry, farming, fertilizing and husbandry; some roles have exclusive tasks. Start with one clear production goal, then check the relevant workstation or storage to collect what the worker produces.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • A claimed settlement with settlers and appropriate living arrangements.
  • The relevant workstation, containers or work zone for the task.
  • Required materials accessible to the assigned worker.
  1. Open the Settlement interface and review your settlers and current work priorities.
  2. Choose one useful task, such as farming or hauling, and identify its required station or zone.
  3. Set or adjust priorities so the worker can perform that task.
  4. Create restrictions if you need to keep a settler working in a particular area.
  5. Ensure required inputs are stored where the worker can reach them.
  6. Allow the settler to perform work within the settlement boundaries.
  7. Check the relevant container or workstation and move completed goods into your own stock.

Farming tips

  • Make one production change at a time so you can tell whether the worker has access to the needed materials.
  • Use work priorities and restrictions together when a settler is doing the wrong job or working in the wrong area.

Repeat, collect and use

Worker production is repeatable while the settlement, inputs and work settings remain available; output depends on the assigned task.

Common mistakes

  • Assigning work without required inputs: stock the accessible container or station first.
  • Expecting every settler to do every task: some work is role-restricted, so check eligibility.
  • Forgetting to collect produced goods: inspect the relevant storage or workstation periodically.

When to stop or switch

Stop adjusting once the settler produces the needed goods consistently; change priorities when your settlement’s next production goal changes.
