Keeping seed from a harvest can make the next suitable planting window possible without relying entirely on scavenged packets.

A harvest may supply both food and the start of another crop cycle. Inspect the crop output before cooking or preserving anything, and store returned seed separately with its crop name. Replant only when the current sowing window allows. Seed storage helps only when you preserve the seed and can tend the next bed; do not assume every crop or harvest returns seed.
Repeat for each harvest that returns seed. The cycle is renewable only when crop output includes seed; it is not guaranteed for every crop or state.
Stop reserving seed once you have enough for the bed you can safely maintain; use additional produce for food or preservation.
