Hunting converts local wildlife into meat and other usable carcass materials, with risk determined by the animal and colony’s ability to hunt safely.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Wild animals visible in the map’s Wildlife list, with a clear route to a butcher table and cold storage.
Hunting is a map-dependent source of meat. Choose prey by checking its danger and revenge information, then assign a capable colonist with a weapon. A successful hunt still leaves hauling and butchering work: a butcher table turns the carcass into meat and other materials. Keep the final output cold or process it promptly because fresh meat is perishable.
A colonist assigned Hunting and an appropriate weapon.
A huntable animal on the map and a route that does not expose the hunter to avoidable danger.
A butcher table and a colonist able to perform the work.
A freezer or another plan to use the meat before it spoils.
Open the Wildlife list and inspect candidate animals, including any displayed revenge risk and danger warning.
Choose prey the colony can handle; avoid initiating a hunt if the animal can readily threaten the hunter or nearby colonists.
Mark the animal for hunting and check that a capable hunter is assigned and equipped.
After the kill, haul the carcass to the butcher table before it deteriorates.
Have a colonist butcher the carcass, then haul meat to a freezer or cooking area.
Use the meat in meals or another appropriate food plan; store leather and other usable outputs separately.
Farming tips
A ranged weapon and distance can reduce exposure, but they do not make dangerous prey safe; follow the in-game warning and colony defenses.
Plan cold storage before hunting several animals, since unprocessed carcasses and meat can spoil.
Repeat, collect and use
Hunting can be repeated while suitable wildlife remains on the map. The supply is limited by local animal availability and is not a guaranteed renewable crop.
Common mistakes
Hunting an animal without checking retaliation risk: inspect its warning and choose safer prey if the colony cannot contain an attack.
Killing more than the colony can butcher or store: match hunts to labor and freezer space.
Leaving carcasses outdoors: haul and butcher promptly, then refrigerate the meat.
When to stop or switch
Stop hunting when food stores, butcher workload, or freezer capacity are sufficient; resume when the colony needs meat and safer prey is available.
